So a day and a half in Bangkok

So between volunteer weeks we go to Bangkok for the weekend. Friday night through Sunday afternoon before going back to Singburi.

We arrived in Khao San road which is the backpacking street of Bangkok, full of noise and sound. I am not staying here as I have booked a room across town. With my current stomach issues I’ve decided a private bathroom is a necessity.

As it was 6pm I went across town to the Marriot Skybar (the Octave) known for its views across Bangkok.

Before I headed across town to my hotel.

Waking up I crossed the road to a giant Tesco/lotus (the name). I am amazed by how many western products are sold. It was the first place I have seen selling meat. The sealed meat was interesting but the huge tubs of open meat with pack your own were interesting. Based on people flowing through the meat rotates quickly.

After this I headed to a travel office near the hua lamphong train station and picked up my tickets for Chiang Mai next saturday

After that it was time to visit the unicorn cafe. I couldn’t get a table as too busy but interesting experience.

Unfortunately when I went to Siam the Hello Kitty shop is closed down. I am traveling using public transport 100% at this point which I’ll make a post about.

I then spent the afternoon walking around the Chatuchak Market – it is 27 acres of shopping stalls.

On the way back I did get to help a fainting woman held up by her husband into a wheelchair. Lots of little bows later – After that it was dinner at a street restaurant near my hotel

The next day I got up, took a motorcycle taxi across part of Bangkok to get to Khao San Road and meet the other volunteers going back to Sing Buri.

So back at Singburi – time to say goodbye to some of the volunteers who are off on 10 hour bus ride to the Gibbon Sanctuary.
