The Train Journey to Chiang Mai - Jan 11th.
January 14, 2020 · Thailand

So I caught the sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. I did struggle getting food but it was an interesting experience and I met a lovely Canadian Suzanna. The train journey is roughly 14 hours leaving Bangkok at 1.45pm and getting to Chiang Mai at 0404. It actually was 66 minutes late.
I am traveling 2nd class in the AC sleeper. When you board the train, you take your seat which is a regular seat until they set It up as a sleeper. Which they do awfully early at 7.30pm. Throughout the beginning of the journey people are walking up and down the train with snacks and food. It is possible to order actual food (50 baht) but somehow I missed that And had to talk to the conductor.
The carriage had both a western and squat toilet. It was a little disconcerting walking through carriages which had no safety features whatsoever and I didn’t want to fall to my death as the carriage moved - lol.
They don’t turn off the lights so you want to bring a night mask.
