My first Day as a Tourist in Thailand

So I spent the first day in Thailand as a tourist. Here is basically what I did with a tour guide

Taxi to temple, walk to another temple, public bus to palace, walk to river, ferry ride across river, visit market, boat tour, lunch, ferry ride back across river, floral market, subway to Chinatown, subway back to hotel.

I did all this so that my first day in Thailand I wasn’t complete lost. I am glad I did. The country is beautiful, and a strange cacophony of sounds and smells that is the essential blend that makes up Asia.

My tour guide was awesome and playful which I liked.

I did eat crickets, bamboo grubs and worms. 3 types for 6 Baht (or $2) or all for 100Baht. I also tried Durian (the fruit that smells like sh….). It’s an acquired taste.

The reclining Buddha at Wat Pho and all the statues were interesting. At the first temple I did make an offering and put the gold leaf on the Buddha with my wish. Lots of the temples have different influences by different regions.

The markets in Chinatown and the floral market were incredible. Street stalls are everywhere because most Thai people don’t eat at home but grab food from stalls – even for dinner. I did try fried banana, sugar canecubes, a sugar cane drink, coconut ice cream and some other options.

Public transportation was fun

I don’t want to understate that after walking 17000 steps, because it was quicker that the humidity and heat is quite draining. I am hoping my body will adapt. Fell asleep early and will wake up early but as on Sunday early in the morning I fly to Chiang Mai that is not a bad thing.

The humidity and heat is so much that I sweat through the pouch under my shirt I keep my wallet in, anything in my shirt pockets is wet by the end of the day. I hydrate myself constantly.
