Journey to Oslo

My first day on been unemployed. .So we’re 4 days away from our journey to Oslo. Starting to pack and making sure everything is ready to go 🙂 This is me testing the blog publish from my iPad.

So we left Columbus on Saturday (7.35pm) and started our adventure. Landing in Washington DC at gate D9 we were flying out of D5 – and in between was the United Club which allowed us the opportunity for some free snacks in our 45 minute window. Then we were off to Dublin (10.25pm) in Premium Plus economy seats – not as nice as Polaris they have the same seats as domestic first class – or as Renee says a bit more space for the “tush”.

I managed to sleep a bit which is a rare occurrence in a non-lie flat seat but Renee spend the night listening to stories, watching TV etc.

Landing in Dublin we had a 20 minute march from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. It was interesting seeing the lines for EU, and UK and then everyone else in Irish customs – as we were a transfer we bypassed that and marched across the airport. We chose not to stop because we weren’t sure where gate was. We did manage to locate some diet cokes from a vending machine while we waited for our plane and someone to show up so we could get seats – 24Fand 25F. There was no 26. It was interesting to walk around the Dublin Airport.

I didn’t expect to find out that a blaa is a type of bun which comes in a hard and soft form – so thing of these as breakfast baps.

Landing in Norway

The flight to Oslo was ‘interesting’, such as finding out tea/coffee is free but you have to pay for water now. The view while landing into Oslo was lovely. Getting off the flight was more awkward – at this point having been crammed into a window seat at the back of the aircraft with 2 seats between us and the aisle – both Renee and I were a little stiff so we were the last off. What we didn’t know until we were leaving was that the entire aircraft of people were waiting on an Elongated bus for us…. To drive us to the other terminal. Those icy stares of lots of Norwegians……. In our defense we were the back seats of the plane.

After customs we entered baggage claim… to find no bags…. I spoke to SAS and was informed that they (plus 20 plus other passengers) bags were believed to still be in Dublin… and we’ll get them sometime…. Oh the joy. I entered the dates for both hotels in Norway and hope we’ll get them.

Hotel Scandic Holberg

Off to the Fly2get train we went – which was a quick 20 mins to Oslo station – then a short (5 min) but expensive Taxi ride later we arrived at the Scandic Holberg hotel. The room’s dimensions are tiny with 2 tiny beds but they are beds – it’s not bad.

Renee was passing out so I went by myself and ordered a club sandwich at a local little restaurant and visited the 7-11.

Then it was off to bed. I was only woken up several times by reminders on Renee’s phone…. We’ll get those turned off tonight.
